Employee Interview: Tuneer De

Today, we interview Tuneer De, our Summer Business Analyst Intern. Tuneer is an upcoming junior at The University of Chicago, where he is majoring in Economics and Statistics.

Q: Where are you from and where are you based now?

A: I'm an international student from Bangalore, India and am currently based in Hyde Park, Chicago since I’m a student at UChicago

Q: What attracted you to Parallel Works initially?

A: When I heard the idea behind PW for the first time, I was instantly excited and thought it had a lot of potential. Moreover, I wanted to work with a tech start-up because of my longtime interest in everything tech related. I thought I could learn something cool and also contribute something valuable to the team.

Q: What is your favorite aspect of working at Parallel Works?

A: I definitely enjoy working with such talented people, and being given the opportunity to do work that has a tangible impact on the company’s mission. It’s also been very interesting to get a full view of the different aspects of running a start-up.

Q: What has been an area that you’ve had to work in that was unexpected?

A: Coming in, I didn’t really know what to expect and thus prepared myself for a broad set of projects. And I haven’t been disappointed, having contributed to projects in business development, analytics, sales and marketing.

Q: What is the best thing about working in an incubator?

A: I think it’s the opportunity to meet people who are equally passionate about their ideas and the wider ecosystem of innovation that comes with it. In addition, I feel like there is an energy that comes from being at an incubator that’s hard to find elsewhere. The free food every once in awhile doesn’t hurt either!

Q: Where would you like to travel to next and why?

A: Depends on the time. In the middle of the Chicago winter, I’d like to go somewhere warm. I’ve had Dubai on my radar for a long time because I’ve heard great things. I also wouldn’t mind travelling back home to India because I’m missing home-cooked food.

Q: What do you think makes Parallel Works unique?

A: For me, it is the opportunity to work on something that is really cutting-edge, and the opportunity to look at the problem from different angles. It has been very easy to get involved and have ownership despite being an intern, and that’s hard to find elsewhere.

Q: What do you like to do in your free time?

A: After work, I like to read and go to the gym, or explore different neighbourhoods with friends. I’ve also gotten into cooking recently, so you can find me experimenting at home, although my repertoire is still pretty limited.
